Laser hair removal of the face and neck

One of the common concerns among women is excessive facial hair growth. Unwanted hair may appear on the cheeks, above the upper lip, between the eyebrows, on the chin and neck. There are several ways to remove it, including shaving, waxing and mechanical hair removal, but these methods provide only temporary results and need to be repeated regularly. One of the modern methods for long-term reduction of unwanted hair is facial laser hair removal, which should be performed in specialized clinics by qualified specialists.

What Is Facial Laser Hair Removal?

Facial laser hair removal is a modern treatment suitable for both women and men. Laser energy is absorbed by the melanin in the hair and targets the hair follicle, helping to prevent future hair growth. Treatment settings are selected individually based on the characteristics of the skin and hair. A sensation of warmth or mild discomfort may occur during the treatment. The procedure usually takes 35 to 40 minutes. At Optimum Clinic, treatments are performed by specialists using modern laser equipment.

At Optimum Clinic, laser hair removal is performed using modern equipment - the Candela GentleLase Alexandrite laser.

Benefits of Facial Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal can provide a long-lasting reduction in unwanted hair and reduce the need for regular shaving and other hair removal methods.

  • Targeted action. Laser energy is primarily absorbed by the melanin in the hair and targets the hair follicle;
  • Long-lasting results. A course of treatments can provide a long-lasting reduction of up to 90% of unwanted hair;
  • Comfort during treatment. Mild tingling, a sensation of warmth or slight discomfort may occur. A cooling system is used to improve comfort;
  • Improved skin condition. Skin tone becomes more even, while ingrown hairs and blackheads may be reduced.

How Many Laser Hair Removal Sessions Are Needed?

For noticeable results, an average course of 4-8 sessions is required. The exact number of treatments depends on individual characteristics, hair growth patterns and the treatment area. Hair grows in cycles, and each phase has its own duration. The laser is most effective on actively growing hairs that contain sufficient melanin. At any given time, no more than 20% of facial hairs may be in this phase, while the rest are in resting or regression phases. Several treatments are therefore required to reduce unwanted facial hair growth. After completing the course, a long-lasting reduction in hair growth can be achieved in the treated area.

How to Prepare for the Treatment

To make the treatment as comfortable as possible, our specialists recommend:

  • For 1 month before the laser hair removal session, avoid all hair removal methods except shaving;
  • Avoid sunbathing and tanning beds for 1 week before the treatment;
  • Shave the hair in the treatment area 3 days before the procedure. Hair in the treatment area should be no longer than 1 mm;
  • Avoid laser and chemical peels and other aggressive cosmetic treatments for 7 days before the session. Damage to the outer layers of the skin is a contraindication to laser treatment.

After the treatment, it is also important to follow the specialist's recommendations:

  • For 24 hours after laser hair removal, do not visit saunas or steam baths, take hot baths or have any type of massage. Anything that increases blood circulation may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment by increasing blood flow around the affected follicles;
  • Avoid all forms of tanning for 2 weeks. Ultraviolet radiation may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment;
  • Between sessions, do not pluck regrowing hairs. If you are unable to attend the next session on time, it is better to shave them;
  • Use moisturizing and nourishing skincare products recommended by your doctor;
  • Do not wear makeup or use medicated cosmetic products for 3 days;
  • Do not pluck hairs treated with the laser. They should shed naturally.

Contraindications:

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • Active herpes;
  • Severe diabetes;
  • Cancer and autoimmune diseases;
  • Presence of a pacemaker;
  • Epilepsy and other psychiatric disorders.
